worship, community service, and spiritual growth. We are looking for a capable and
motivated Personal Assistant to the Vicar (part-time) to support the smooth running of our
church life and ministry.
About the Role
We are seeking an organised, reliable, and discreet Personal Assistant (PA) to support the
Vicar of St Michael and All Angels Church, Eastbourne in the smooth running of parish life
and ministry. This varied and rewarding role combines administrative efficiency with
sensitivity to the mission and values of the Church of England.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Vicar, parish officers, and the wider
church community, helping ensure that the administrative, pastoral, and communication
aspects of church life run smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the Vicar’s diary, appointments, and correspondence
Act as a first point of contact for parish enquiries (by phone, email, or in person)
Prepare service sheets, newsletters, and notices
Assist with the organisation of weddings, baptisms, and funerals
Maintain parish records and files (digital and paper)
Support the preparation of reports, meetings, and PCC documentation
Liaise with the Diocese, churchwardens, and volunteers as required
Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
Person Specification
Essential:
Excellent organisational and administrative skills
Strong written and verbal communication
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and comfortable with digital
tools
Able to work independently, manage time effectively, and prioritise tasks
Discretion and respect for confidentiality
A sympathetic understanding of the aims and values of the Church of England
Desirable:
Experience in a church, charity, or community organisation
Familiarity with church life and liturgical terminology
Flexible approach and a sense of humour!
Working Arrangements
Hours can be worked flexibly across the week, by agreement with the Vicar
Hybrid working (partly from home and partly in the parish office) may be possible
Occasional attendance at evening or weekend meetings may be required with notice
